Machinability of ASTM A36 steel plate

The cutting performance of ASTM A36 steel plate has a certain relationship with carbon content and pearlite structure. Generally, the higher the carbon content, the harder and more brittle the metal, and the harder it is to cut. In addition, the finer the structure, the closer the pearlite layer spacing, and the more uniform the pearlite distribution, it is also an important factor affecting the cutting performance of ASTM A36 steel plate. The common method to improve the cutting performance of ASTM A36 steel plate is to increase S, P.

ASTM A36 steel plate is the most commonly used low carbon steel and hot rolled steel. It has excellent welding performance and is suitable for grinding, punching, tapping, drilling and machining processes. ASTM A36 steel plate has lower yield strength than cold roll C1018, so ASTM A36 steel plate is easier to bend than C1018 steel. Generally, due to the use of C1018 hot rollers, ASTM A36 steel plate does not produce larger diameter steels.

ASTM A36 steel plate is generally available in the following forms: rectangular, square, round, channel, angle, I-beam, and I-beam.
