About 16Mo3 Steel Plate

16Mo3 is a EN10028 specified pressure vessel grade chrome molybdenum steel alloy for use in elevated working temperatures.

16Mo3 steel is a pressure vessel steel that is used in applications with elevated temperatures according to EN 10028–2. It has improved mechanical properties and better creep resistance allowing it to be used up to 500°C. This makes it ideal for a wide range of uses where the plates will have to perform at a high temperature continuously.

The material is used as a weldable steel in the fabrication of industrial boilers and steel pressurised vessels found in the oil, gas and chemical industry. Due to the materials chrome and molybdenum content, 16Mo3 has excellent heat resistance and corrosion resistant characteristics. We can provide 16Mo3 Grade Steel with test certification and stamping.

16MO3 Steel Application
Typical applications for 16Mo3 include a wide range of power plant equipment, industrial exhaust, venting and flare systems and waste recycling and incineration plants. It is also valuable for machinery where parts are likely to remain hot for an extended period. In power plants it is regularly used in boilers, superheater tubes, collector and hot steam pipes, stove tubes and conduits. 16Mo3 is also used in various types of heat exchanger in both the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry.

One example of how 16Mo3 plates is used is in the steel making process itself. The blast furnace requires plenty of hot air to convert the iron to steel and much of the output air is recovered and used to reheat the input and reduce costs. Traditionally the blast furnaces are made of standard carbon pressure vessel steels, but 16Mo3 provides a good alternative as it is more resistant to the huge thermal stresses that it undergoes on a daily basis. The 16Mo3 is also more resistant to the corrosion formed by nitrates as nitrogen oxide is removed from the steel mix. And this combination of properties can increase the life expectancy of critical plant equipment and reduce downtime.
